5th Research Camp "Mobile Manipulation - All in!"
Objective
We invite Ph.D. students with a strong background in mobile manipulation and renowned experts in that field from all over the world to gather for one week in a stimulating environment to discuss the state of the art and challenges and future avenues in mobile manipulation at large. The focus of this 5th BRICS research camp will be on system integration in mobile manipulation ("All in!").The research camp has a strong experimental character, where software is explored and evaluated towards its use and reuse for some given tasks and challenges.
Provided input
- an inspiring working environment,
- travel grants covering airfare and full-board accommodation,
- a set of KUKA youBot mobile manipulators with interfaces at current, velocity, and position level (for all joints of platform and arm) and a Care-O-Bot 3 platform with a KUKA lightweight arm
- a collection of software libraries BRICS_CC (Coordination and Control) BRICS_3D (3D Perception and Modelling), BRICS_RN (Robust Navigation) BRICS_MM (Mobile Manipulation)
- an integrated development environment BRIDE for model driven software engineering in robotics
- experimental settings for exploring and evaluating existing software,
- a stage for junior and senior researchers to discuss together best practice in mobile manipulation.
Expected output
- experimental evaluation of provided functional libraries for mobile manipulation and suggestion for revisions
- evaluation of functional architecture of motion and perception stacks
- requirements for functional architectures and harmonized interfaces
- requirements for cross-platform tool support
- outline of a green paper about how robotics software should be developed
- joint software and/or paper publications (in the aftermath of research camp).
